Join the team at Caravan Studios as we work to improve access to needed resources in communities around the world.  Caravan Studios is a division of Techsoup, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in San Francisco, CA.  We use technology so that communities can organize, access and connect to the resources they need. 

Our design thinking methodology has community input throughout, ensuring the developed applications are necessary, and meet the needs of the community. We believe that communities should be deeply involved in developing tools to solve the problems they face.  And they don’t have to be coders to do it.

We build apps for social good and we build them along with the communities that need them.

Internship Opportunity

Our Internship program has been recognized by multiple Universities, as offering a unique and innovative opportunity to their students. We combine practical real world experience, formal and informal mentoring activities, as well as networking and community building skills. Although our internships are unpaid, we support students pursuing college credit and in some cases, scholarships through their University career centers and academic departments.

This internship will focus on assisting the Caravan team in managing two separate online communities, through social media: the online communities of app developers and the communities of nonprofits who work in Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence Shelters. These separate and unrelated communities are members of the Caravan Studios social networks. The intern will help to identify members and manage these communities through Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Responsibilities

For this internship Caravan Studios is searching for a student who has a broad understanding of social media and building a community through social media networks including:

• Using third party tools to identify partners and community members
• Develop outreach strategies to encourage community engagement with Caravan Studios products and services
• Develop skills to build and maintain lead generation documentation and resources

Skills and Qualifications

• Deep familiarization and experience in social media tools and third-party sites to interact with social media
• Ability to clearly organize and synthesize research results
• Excellent writing, presentation, and analytical skill
• Excellent communications skills with the ability to work efficiently with a wide variety of professionals
• Strong problem solving skills
• Simple graphic design skills a plus
• Interest and experience in working in fast-paced, community driven environments
• Educational background or work experience in Social Media, Research, Business, Communications, Marketing and Sales, or similar field
• Experience using and exploring mobile apps

Internship Eligibility

• All interns must be enrolled in a college class or program and should have an overall grade point average of 3 (B or better); and ideally can receive academic credit or a scholarship for the internship.

Structure

• 2-3 days per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
• Depending on the intern, some of this work can be accomplished remotely
• Minimum of 3 months internship with optimally a 6 month appointment

Start Date

• March for Spring Internship and June for Summer Internship

Salary 

This is an unpaid internship, but college credit may be available
